Bombardier Wins Contract to Supply Propulsion and Control Equipment for Skytrain in Bangkok, Thailand

BANGKOK, THAILAND--(Marketwire - Dec. 5, 2007) - Bombardier Transportation announced today that it has won an order for BOMBARDIER(i) MITRAC(i) propulsion and control equipment to be included in 48 cars for the Bangkok Skytrain line in Thailand. The contract was awarded to Bombardier by the Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd. (CRC) in China, which is supplying complete vehicles to the Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company Limited (BTS). The contract, valued at approximately 14 million euros ($20 million US) includes an option for supply of propulsion and control equipment for additional 12 cars. Should the option be exercised, total value of the contract would grow to approximately 17 million euros ($24 million US). CRC is scheduled to begin delivery of the trains in the middle of 2009.

Michael Buscher, President of Propulsion and Controls, Bombardier Transportation, commented: "Customers from all over the world have selected Bombardier's MITRAC technology for more than 23 000 vehicles. This breakthrough contract in Thailand - coupled with recent successes in Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai and Delhi - demonstrate the strength of MITRAC solutions, and confirm Bombardier's strong position in the growing Asian mass transit market."

MITRAC technology offers environmental features that will facilitate Bangkok's pursuit of sustainable mobility objectives. Its sophisticated control system provides energy efficient operation and a high degree of regenerated power to the network.

Bombardier's scope on the contract includes supply of complete propulsion and control solution, including traction and auxiliary converters. Bombardier facilities in Sweden are responsible for the development, production and delivery of the propulsion and control system. The vehicles will be manufactured at CRC facilities in China.
