Bond of Friendship Leads to a Bond Between Running Buddies

Eleven Year Old Friends to Inaugurate myTEAM TRIUMPH Chi-town Chapter at Chicago Half Marathon

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - Aug 30, 2011) - On Sunday, September 11th, Adam Davis and Justin Moy, each age 11 and starting 6th grade will be at the starting line of the Chicago Half Marathon in Jackson Park, poised to compete while enjoying the views of Chicago's lake shore. There is a major difference, however, between these 2 and the other runners. Adam, a Huntley, Illinois resident, will be pushing the wheel chair of his buddy, Justin Moy, of Concord, Massachusetts. Proud parents, teammates and members of the myTEAM TRIUMPH Chi-town Chapter who helped the 2 families put this together will all be there to cheer for the boys. This will be the inaugural event for the myTEAM TRIUMPH Chi-town Chapter.

Here's the back story -- Justin and Adam met in last summer when Justin's family came to visit the Davis family. The two boys became fast friends, instantly bonding over their love of Lego's. In April 2011, Adam's parents, Dan and Jennifer, combined pleasure with a business trip to Boston in order to be spectators at the Boston Marathon. Justin, enamored with Dan's ability to push his wheelchair while running, was already thinking about participating in a race. Dan, clearly of the same mindset, offered to push him through a race and the plan was set in motion. Upon returning to Chicago the Davis' shared the story with their son, Adam, himself a nationally ranked runner, pointed out that Justin was his friend and that he was going to push him through a race. The rest will become history on September 11th.

With the help and support of Team Hoyt, myTEAM TRIUMPH and the efforts of both sets of parents, Adam is in training, a special wheelchair has been secured, additional runners are in place and Justin could not be more excited! It's a go! Justin will be participating in the Chicago ½ Marathon on Sunday, September 11th. For photos, additional information, or to schedule an interview, contact Jane Kaplan, 847.433.8594.

myTEAM TRIUMPH (mTT) is an athletic ride-along program created for children, teens, adults and veterans with disabilities who would normally not be able to experience endurance events such as triathlons or road races. The volunteer runners may be the arms and legs, but the "captains" (the race participants with the disabilities) are the true inspiration and heart of the teams.

The myTEAM TRIUMPH Chi-town Chapter was recently established to serve the northern Illinois and Chicago area, one of the largest running markets in the nation. The mTT Chi-town Chapter is a non-profit organization and relies solely on donations for support.
