BookShout Partners With August to Make Securing Homes Completely Digital

Partnership Introduces Digital Instruction Manuals to August Smart Lock, so Users Never Have to Search for Paper Manuals Again

PLANO, TX and SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - May 20, 2015) - BookShout, the eBook platform for brand engagement, and August, the home automation company behind the August Smart Lock, today announced a partnership to make securing homes completely digital. August Smart Lock revolutionized home security by eliminating physical keys and allowing users to control access to their home using only their smartphones. Now, using BookShout's distribution technology, August is digitizing the August Smart Lock installation and instruction manuals to create a better customer experience.

Before purchasing an August Smart Lock, homeowners can use the BookShout app to scan a barcode and instantly download the instruction manual for installation and usage, ensuring it fits their home security needs. With this feature, users are able to see the ease in which August Smart Locks are installed and controlled. Once purchased, users will always have access to the August Smart Lock manual and instructions through their BookShout app -- meaning they'll never again have to search the house for paper manuals.

"In my family, we are constantly searching for misplaced instruction manuals for dishwashers, Lego sets, and every battery-powered gadget we've acquired over the years. Digital instructions and user guides are the next step in content distribution as brands continue looking for ways to put their information in the hands of an on-the-go consumer," said Jason Illian, founder and CEO for BookShout. "August Smart Lock has revolutionized home security and made searching for your keys a thing of the past. This partnership aims to do the same thing with cumbersome print instructions."

Digitizing instruction pamphlets and purchase manuals is merely one of the myriad of ways in which BookShout is enabling Fortune 500 companies to provide a better consumer experience. Most recently, BookShout announced a partnership with a name brand cereal company to distribute millions of children's eBooks via cereal boxes. Additionally, BookShout was the chosen eBooks and digital content distribution partner for South by Southwest (SXSW) this year -- enabling the popular technology, music and film festival to offer all festival content, including eBooks from all speakers, to attendees through a digital medium for the first time ever.

"August Smart Locks are at the forefront of home security for the digital age, so it makes sense for us to treat paper manuals the same way we treat physical keys -- by replacing them with your smartphone," said Jason Johnson, CEO and co-founder of August. "We are asking our customers to buy an intelligent home security device, controlled by smartphones, and we're working to make the entire process digital. This partnership allows that."

August Smart Locks are available for purchase at Apple Stores, Best Buy, and The BookShout app is available for iOS and Android devices as well as the web.
