boom 99.7 Launches in Ottawa

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 30, 2011) - At 3:00 pm EDT today, boom hit the Ottawa airwaves taking over the 99.7 frequency. Ottawa listeners are invited to tune-in this Canada Day long weekend to check out the new station and enjoy wall to wall music from the 70's, 80's and 90's.

The launch of boom in Ottawa follows the overwhelmingly successful conversion of EZ Rock to boom in Toronto last year. The evolved station format will reflect the musical, lifestyle and entertainment tastes of smart, vibrant 35-54 year-old women living and working in Ottawa. Those familiar with EZ Rock will continue to hear their favourite songs from artists like Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Rod Stewart and Bob Marley. The exciting news is that with the evolution to boom, listeners will now be able to hear even more of the music they love from bands like U2, Duran Duran, The Police, Blondie, Queen and INXS.

boom's already highly regarded on-air line-up will continue to deliver lifestyle content for women 35-54, and the all new boom Breakfast Show will offer a more music less talk format.

"The format shift is simply a natural evolution driven by changing market demand and listener feedback," explained Denis Bouchard, boom General Manager. "Majic 100 has been declining over the last few years and their market position isn't clear. Bob, which skews more male, also plays 80's and 90's music but their offer of "more whatever" is just that." Bouchard went on to say, "With our well-defined position, boom will be a perfect fit for women 35-54 in this very competitive market."

"boom 99.7 will continue to be a highly entertaining and fun radio station that promises listeners more of the 70's 80's and 90's music they love to sing along to," said Sarah Cummings, boom Brand Director. Part of what will enhance the experience for boom listeners is the 360 degree approach that will allow the station to connect and interact with listeners on-air, online and on the street. boom will continue to actively support community groups and events including Bluesfest, Habitat for Humanity, CHEO, Ovarian Cancer Society, and hundreds more.
