Boom Chicago's Comedy Central News Debuts as One of the European Network's Top Shows

AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS--(Marketwire - September 24, 2007) - What do you get when you add brash American humor to the Dutch edition of America's #1 Comedy Network? -- "BOOM," a blockbuster hit that has become one of the most popular shows on Comedy Central, MTV or TMF in the Netherlands, with higher ratings than such American imports as "The Daily Show," "Saturday Night Live" and "Scrubs."

For nearly 15 years, Boom Chicago's hit English-language comedy shows have been a top attraction on Amsterdam's Leidseplein. Started by Chicago natives, Jon (Pep) Rosenfeld and Andrew Moskos, the sharp-witted improv troupe serves comedy, drinks and gourmet food to full houses every night of the week. Boom Chicago has been a springboard for comic talent that has gone on to programs like "Saturday Night Live," "The Colbert Report," "The Daily Show," "That '70s Show," "Conan O'Brien" and "MAD TV." Small wonder that Comedy Central's new Dutch network added their unique brand of humor to their fall schedule.

"We've been producing an ongoing series of videos online for some time, as well as performing at corporate shows and comedy festivals, so moving to TV was a logical extension," says Boom co-founder, Andrew Moskos. "We're really pleased with the reception we've had from viewers not only in the Netherlands, but everywhere on the Web. So many Europeans speak English, and topical humor is truly universal," adds co-founder Jon Rosenfeld.

The eight-minute CCN (Comedy Central News) airs three times each weekday night on TV as well as on and It's hosted by Boom Chicago veteran Greg Shapiro, long known for his outrageous news updates on the Boom stage. Shapiro is joined by Lauren Flans, who supplies the "girl on the street" perspective on everything from a tattoo convention to a lingerie fashion show.
