BorderWare Announces Availability of SIPassure™ 2.0 to Secure SIP Communications at the Network Edge

BOSTON and LONDON--(CCNMatthews - Sep 20, 2005) -

SIPassure Enhances Security Provided by SIP Proxy Servers, IP-PBXs and Real-time Communications Systems

BorderWare Technologies Inc., the leading provider of messaging security solutions, today announced SIPassure 2.0, a turn-key platform that provides end-to-end network and application layer security for VoIP, Instant Messaging, Video Conferencing and other Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based applications. SIPassure 2.0 provides an added layer of security for SIP Proxy Servers, IP-PBX's, and real-time communications systems from market leaders including Cisco Call Manager, Microsoft Live Communications Server (LCS) 2005, 3Com VCX, Marconi ViPr, Avaya, Nortel and open-source vendors such as Asterisk. In addition, BorderWare has applied for a number of patents in this area and the proprietary technology it has engineered.

The adoption of voice over IP (VOIP) and converged real-time communications has created a new security challenge for enterprises worldwide. A recent In-Stat report found that more than 75% of the companies that have implemented VoIP, plan to replace their security appliances within the next year. Driving this trend is the fact that traditional perimeter firewalls are not designed to secure and manage the dynamic nature of real-time SIP communications leaving enterprises exposed at the application layer. BorderWare's SIPassure 2.0 adds a level of protection against VoIP abuse and service disruption, malicious attacks, interference, spam and other related activity.

SIPassure is designed with full deployment flexibility and can co-exist with session border controllers and traditional perimeter firewalls, providing enterprises and service providers with augmented levels of protection against all SIP security threats. SIPassure goes beyond traditional SIP capable firewalls by securing not only the application and media servers but also securing all users and SIP end-points. It is a secure edge proxy that offers standard features such as NAT traversal, topology hiding, session management, and traditional firewall protection as well as enhanced functionality to protect against SIP-based attacks. SIPassure provides the highest levels of network security without compromising call quality or usability.

As demand for SIP-based services such as VoIP increases, BorderWare has become a preferred SIP security technology partner for industry leaders including Marconi Corporation and Ubiquity Software Corporation to further secure their IP-based communication offerings. In addition, SIPassure 2.0 is being trialed in several service provider networks as a key component of their secure VoIP offerings.

"Our customers demand the highest security and SIPassure adds an important layer of application security. SIPassure's ability to provide NAT translation and traversal enable us to offer small and mid sized customers SIP-based services without the need to have internal resources to install and manage premise equipment. As a result, SIPassure not only protects our customers but allows us to offer value added services," said Jeff Rothell, Chief Executive Officer, CentricVoice, which provides a suite of IP products, including Voice, Data, and enhanced features that include Hosted PBX, IPVPN, web conferencing, video conferencing, and IP phones.

"SIP is an extremely powerful protocol that will facilitate the next generation of IP-based communication," said Tim Leisman, CEO, BorderWare. "Security concerns continue to hinder adoption and wide-scale deployment of SIP based applications. SIPassure provides the application-level security enterprises require and mitigates these vulnerabilities, removing a major barrier to adoption."
