Boston Software Systems Customers and Partners Make 34 Percent of Leapfrog's 2006 Top Hospitals List

Boston WorkStation Helps Leading Hospitals Advance Patient Safety Through Workflow Automation

SHERBORN, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- December 20, 2006 -- Boston Software Systems™, the leader in workflow automation technology to the healthcare market, today announced that 17 of the hospitals listed on Leapfrog's 2006 list of the top 50 acute care hospitals and top nine children's hospitals are using Boston WorkStation™ scripting technology to help increase cost efficiency and improve patient safety. The list reflects those facilities which best meet Leapfrog's quality standards. These criteria include measures for Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE), ICU physician staffing, evidence-based hospital referral and 27 other safe practices factors.

"While patient safety and quality care have always been top priorities in healthcare, there's a greater demand for hospitals to stay ahead of the curve from a clinical, operational and business standpoint. They all work together," said Steve Cohen, executive vice president of Boston Software Systems. "We are committed to helping leading healthcare organizations, such as those featured on Leapfrog's list, optimize their business processes, increase workflow efficiency and reduce medical errors. Through our innovative technology, they are able to realize the highest level of business efficiencies and patient care."

The Leapfrog Group is a consortium of more than 90 Fortune 500 companies and purchaser coalitions working together to drive patient safety improvements in hospitals. This voluntary program is aimed at initiating breakthrough improvements in the safety, quality and affordability of healthcare for Americans.

Hospitals are using Boston WorkStation to accomplish a variety of automation and integration tasks. A hospital in Ohio is using Boston WorkStation to achieve biometric authentication compliance with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy Positive Identification regulations. This solution is integral to their implementation of a CPOE.

At another facility, Boston WorkStation is being used to automate workflow and speed one-time data migrations between its facilities. With this technology, the staff is able to increase the efficiency with which they manage materials, accounts payable, ESS and payroll; update the pharmacy; and import MRI data from outpatient facilities.

A Canadian hospital has implemented Boston WorkStation to enable its automated patient registration process. Patients are able to check in at a kiosk in the patient care area, which expedites the registration process for patients who frequently visit -- at least three times per week over many months.
