Boston Software Systems Launches UNISON 2.0

Introduces Data Mapping and Greater Flexibility; Automates MEDITECH Dictionary Synchronization

SHERBORN, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 16, 2007 --Boston Software Systems™, the leader in workflow automation technology to the healthcare market, today introduced data mapping and targeted data synchronization to the latest version of UNISON™ version 2.0. Built on the Boston WorkStation™ technology, UNISON is a stand-alone application for hospitals using MEDITECH information systems to accelerate the development of a dictionary synchronization from 30 hours to 20 minutes, and schedule it to occur regularly without human intervention.

One satisfied user of a large hospital system said, "I've been using Boston Software Systems' Boston WorkStation for scripting for two and a half years. This product alone has saved us countless hours of keying Live and Test dictionaries for nine facilities. Last spring I wrote a very time-consuming and complicated script to sync Scheduling dictionaries. I have used UNISON to sync a number of dictionaries including MIS User and Preference Cards. UNISON's support and development group listened to my suggestions and have incorporated them into this new version. My colleagues and I will be able to do multiple field lookups or change all or part of a field to copy dictionaries from one facility to another and much more in much less time."

Shortly after being introduced to UNISON, Denise Morell, senior systems analyst at Spring Harbor Hospital, ME, said, "The thought of writing a script for the billing and accounts receivable procedure dictionary for our behavioral hospital always left a pit in my stomach because it's much more complicated than the B/AR dictionary at an acute hospital. In fact, I had never even attempted it before I got UNISON. UNISON has tamed the beast that has haunted me and greatly simplified dictionary synchronization. Additionally, working with the Boston Software Systems support team has been a great experience. Now I look forward to using the product."

Having accurate physician lists and B/AR records is important in a hospital's quest to provide quality care and effective communication among healthcare providers. These are just two of the hundreds of different dictionaries that are required to be synchronized throughout the hospital.

"Our customers have realized huge ROI from UNISON, which addresses the critical need to maintain current data records in all departments. Based on customer demand and feedback, we have improved this offering to provide even more options that allow users to adapt the technology to their specific needs and environment," said Sara McNeil, president of Boston Software Systems. "Boston Software Systems is continuously applying innovative technology to enable hospitals of all sizes to operate more efficiently."

Features and Benefits

UNISON v2.0 provides additional features that create greater flexibility for its use in the hospital or practice setting. Among those features are:

Data Mapping -- Applies logic to an existing value to determine if that value should be changed in the destination that a user is writing the information to, enabling greater flexibility for users in terms of changing the field content (values) they choose to sync. This provides the user with a powerful set of options for altering nearly any data value in any data location based on conditions the user can create. For instance, if all part numbers beginning with a C must now have three zeros added to the end of the number, a user can make the change with the sync.

Targeted Synchronization -- Allows users to synchronize as little as one data element, one screen of data or just certain sections of data. This gives users greater flexibility when updating data. For instance, if they only need to change one value, such as an ID number, across the dictionaries, they can sync for that single value rather than all the information in the dictionary.

Updated and Improved GUI -- Incorporates a top-down design and use of color to quickly indicate where the user will most likely be clicking.

Field Mapping -- More easily accommodates changes in MEDITECH releases where the location of specific fields change. Users may now read a value from the source dictionary and write to the target dictionary in a different place. The remapping of values can apply to any field on the screen. This includes reoccurring sections of data. As a result, hospitals will not be affected by MEDITECH product version variations.

Availability & Technical Requirements

UNISON is available for MEDITECH Magic and MEDITECH Client Server. UNISON is a stand-alone application and does not require a Boston WorkStation license to operate. It must be installed on a PC, running a Microsoft Windows-based operating system.
