Bottle of Unibroue 17 Sells for $127

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 13, 2010) - After creating a buzz with the honors it brought home from the recent World Beer Awards, Unibroue 17 made a huge splash at a silent auction held by Unibroue at Fête Bières et Saveurs. The dedication of fans of the Chambly brewery became clear when a 750 ml bottle offered on auction drew a flurry of bids, closing at $127.

"We had only a few rare bottles at the brewery from a single brew produced in late 2007, and we wanted to make them available to beer lovers," said Unibroue marketing director Patricia Gagnon. "So we took advantage of Fête Bières et Saveurs in Chambly to hold a silent auction at our booth for four 750 ml bottles to tempt festivalgoers."

Brewed only once, Unibroue 17 is the result of brewmaster Jerry Vietz's expertise and know-how. This beer stands out for its roasted malt nose, slightly sweet taste, and subtle oak cask finish.

"In my memory this is the highest price a Quebec beer has ever fetched," said brewmaster Jerry Vietz. "This accolade comes on the heels of the honors the 17 won at the World Beer Awards this summer, which makes me even happier."

The brewery will match the amount raised during the auction and donate it to charity organization Centraide.
