Bottled Water Saves the World...

Earth Water sets a new standard

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Aug. 24, 2007) - As the debate around bottled water rages, Earth Water has set a new standard for the bottled beverage industry.

Since 2004, the Canadian company has operated in support of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) by donating 100% of its net profits to be used in water aid programs in developing countries. Now, they're taking it a step further; on Friday, August 10th, at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, Earth Water introduced a corn-based biodegradable bottle.

CEO and Founder, Kori Chilibeck and his team represent a new and powerful breed of socially conscious entrepreneurs. They have managed to break into, and find success in the very competitive international bottled water market, while staying true to the promise they made to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). In fact, it was their promise to pass on 100% of their net profits that convinced the UNHCR to give the company exclusive worldwide rights to use the UNHCR logo, a badge that Earth Water wears proudly.

"Earth Water is providing consumers with an environmentally and socially conscious water bottle product," says Chilibeck. "In light of increased environmental awareness and negativity surrounding the bottled water industry, we want to help consumers decrease their environmental footprint while continuing to support Earth Water's efforts to bring clean, drinkable water to people in developing countries".

With recent criticism of the massive bottled water industry, Earth Water wants to set a positive example for other businesses. "This is not a cure-all solution, but we know that if other bottlers follow our lead, it will have a huge impact" says Chilibeck. "I'm probably the only operator of a bottled water company who would tell you that you should drink tap water - but if you're going to buy a bottle of water, we want to provide an ethical option".
