Boulangerie Regionale des Iles Inc. Expands with Support from Government of Canada

L'ÉTANG-DU-NORD, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - April 4, 2012) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, announces that the bakery Boulangerie Régionale des Îles Inc. has been granted funding from the Government of Canada for productivity enhancement.

"This is yet another example of the Government of Canada's determination to support enterprises that, like Boulangerie Régionale des Îles, are making the necessary investments to increase their productivity," says Minister Lebel.

The Boulangerie has been active in the field of agri-food in Îles-de-la-Madeleine for more than 40 years. It manufactures several varieties of freshly baked bread (organic, sourdough, grains), in addition to a range of pre-cooked baguettes, muffins, specialty breads and pastries. Clients include retailers, restaurants and food services in the Atlantic provinces and Quebec. With this expansion project and the acquisition of more efficient equipment, the bakery expects to double its production capacity. In so doing, it will be better equipped to continue offering original, top-quality and competitively-priced products, expand its sales network and adequately meet growing demand.

Manufacturing firms are few and far between in the Gaspésie and Îles-de-la-Madeleine region. The Boulangerie Régionale contributes to diversifying the archipelago's economy, which is primarily based on fishing and tourism.

This $151,542 in repayable funding has been awarded under Canada Economic Development's Business and Regional Growth program.
