Boundary Introduces the World's Fastest, Most Accurate Way to Discover, Map and Monitor Applications in the Cloud

See and Correct Potential Issues Before They Affect Application Performance

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Aug 14, 2012) - Boundary today announced immediate availability of several significant new capabilities to its application performance monitoring solution. Leading the swath of new capabilities is the industry's first cloud-based capability that discovers and creates a visual representation of the logical application topology, and tracks changes to it in real time. Modern IT applications are highly distributed and dynamic in nature, and operations/DevOps teams are finding it increasingly difficult to monitor and maintain those applications. Boundary helps to bridge that gap by replacing the "mental model" of the application topology with the "actual model."

Unlike traditional IT monitoring tools that assume a fixed infrastructure, Boundary is ideal for dynamic environments that experience change on a massive and continuous scale including:

  • Public/Private Clouds (including hybrid) as well as fixed datacenter
  • Software Defined Networks or traditional fixed networks
  • Highly Agile application development environments, characterized by continuous deployment
  • Single language or Polyglot applications
  • SQL or NoSQL clusters
  • Traditional or Big Data application stacks

Boundary's application discovery and visualization is made possible by Boundary's unprecedented capability to monitor every packet that flows to/from every server instance, whether in the cloud, datacenter or hybrid environments. Thus, instead of relying on a periodic re-discovery of the topology or an outdated CMDB, Boundary is showing in real time the actual and true communication between application tiers.

Layered on top of the application topology, Boundary highlights another new capability: the latency or response time between the different tiers of an application. This additional new capability is essential to ensure that both performance and cost are optimized across the application and that changes to the application code or the environment do not have negative effects.

Boundary has also announced:

  • Pre-defined integration for both EC2 and Rackspace Cloud where any status or alerts from those Cloud providers can be annotated into the Boundary data
  • A universal RSS integration capability enabling any RSS status or alert to be annotated into the Boundary data. This capability is available today to integrate alerts from New Relic, Splunk, Papertrail and others
  • A big data store that will enable customers to define longer periods of historical data that they wish to keep
  • A full function, free version of the Boundary solution

"Boundary's view of web applications from the infrastructure perspective, combined with New Relic's deep visibility inside these applications, creates an unparalleled combination," said Bill Lapcevic, Vice President of Business Development, New Relic. "Together, these solutions provide comprehensive, holistic insight into the performance of your business-critical production application environment."

"There's never been a better time for businesses to capitalize on new technology to enter new markets, compete more effectively, and serve their customers better -- with the added benefit of decreasing infrastructure costs," said Gary Read, Boundary President and CEO. "But business leaders must be prepared to embrace a new way to monitor and manage their IT services where the rate of change is exponentially greater and the impact of even small changes can be huge. That's what makes Boundary's ability to dynamically discover and visualize the application topology from the network so incredibly valuable."

"Boundary's application visualization allows us to see our application in a way we never had before," said Beau Christensen, Lead Site Reliability Engineer with Ping Identity. "Now we can identify erroneous communication paths and immediately recognize unexpected application behavior."
