BOXX Introduces Workstation With Teradici PC-over-IP Technology

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwire - September 10, 2009) - BOXX Technologies, an innovator in high-performance computing systems for visual effects (VFX), post production, graphic design, and advanced visualization, today introduced the 3DBOXX 8500R, a rack-mounted motion graphics workstation featuring Teradici Corporation's PC-over-IP® (PCoIP®) technology. PCoIP enables remote desktop computing without compromising application performance. It provides secure, remote access and consolidated administration of enterprise PCs and workstations in a centrally located data center -- eliminating the need for desktop workstations and PCs.

"The BOXX mantra of innovative integration is reflected in the 3DBOXX 8500R," said Dan Cordingley, president and CEO, Teradici Corporation. "By working in close cooperation with us and incorporating PCoIP technology into this rack-mounted workstation, BOXX has developed a high performance solution that overcomes the challenges of providing a rich workstation experience over standard IP networks. The 3DBOXX 8500R offers users, such as 3D design and visual effects professionals, exciting new capabilities to work remotely."

"The experience of using our 3DBOXX 8500R is identical to the traditional environment where the workstation is physically located next to the artists' desk," said Nick Cannon, CTO, MPC (Technicolor), Vancouver. "The PCoIP protocol offers far more than any other remote desktop technology we have tried because there is no discernable lag time and image quality is unaffected even at high resolutions. Artists have no idea their workstation is located elsewhere other than having a quieter, cooler, and more spacious work environment."

The 3DBOXX 8500R is designed for graphic and compute-intensive applications in engineering, animation/VFX, digital imaging, and product design workflows where consolidation of workstations and storage to a central data room is desired. The 3DBOXX 8500R utilizes a stateless portal device at each desk connected remotely to the user's workstation (via Ethernet LAN or WAN) and provides a local breakout box for connecting video monitors, USB, desktop speakers, and other standard peripheral devices. In addition, PCoIP technology ensures uncompromised performance and security, as well as high resolution, full frame rate 3D graphics and HD media, HD audio, and full USB peripheral interoperability -- over an enterprise LAN or WAN.

"We're excited to be partnered with Teradici on such a groundbreaking endeavor," said Shoaib Mohammad, Director of Marketing and Business Development at BOXX. "The PCoIP technology integrated into the new 3DBOXX 8500R moves the workstation from the desktop into the server room, yet still allows engineers and artists uncompromised interactivity inside their software applications. It's the solution our customers have been waiting for."

Powered by the latest dual Intel® Xeon™ Quad Core processors, the high density 3DBOXX 8500R fits into a 1 rack unit space and features up to 96GB of DDR3 memory and support for multiple graphics cards and other I/O options.
