Boyd Payne receives Coal Association of Canada Award of Distinction

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Sept. 11, 2014) - With a 40-year career of accomplishments that have left an indelible mark on Canada's coal industry, it is fitting that Boyd Payne is the 2014 recipient of the Coal Association of Canada's (CAC) highest honour, the Award of Distinction. The award was bestowed on Mr. Payne on September 11 during the Association's international conference being held in Vancouver.

The award recognizes leadership and excellence in the Canadian coal industry. "Throughout his career, Boyd Payne has made significant contributions to Canada's coal industry, including introducing Canadian coal to new export markets in a significant way," said Ann Marie Hann, President of the Coal Association of Canada.

Mr. Payne started his career in the coal business in 1974 in a technical capacity and eventually transitioned into operations, business development and marketing. He worked in a variety of leadership roles in Canada and abroad, including Vice President Marketing with Fording Coal, President and CEO of Elk Valley Coal Partnership, President, Fording Canadian Coal Trust, President and CEO of Teck Coal Limited and Senior Vice President, Coal with Teck Cominco Limited. He was also Vice President Marketing, Metallurgical Coal for BHP Billiton, based in Singapore.

Mr. Payne retired from full time employment in 2011. Never one to sit tight for too long, he is now the President of Black Eagle Mining, a late stage coal exploration company based in Vancouver. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Dingo, an Australian/U.S. based company dedicated to helping the mining industry implement predictive maintenance programs that drive increased operational efficiency.

"Boyd has given generously of his time over the years representing the interests of the Canadian coal industry, including serving on the Association's Board of Directors," said Hann. "Boyd is a very knowledgeable coal industry leader and visionary who also inspires everyone around him."
