Braces Were Once Embarrassing for Teenagers but Somehow Are Now Cool

DALLAS, TX--(Marketwired - Aug 19, 2015) -  At Dallas Braces owned and operated by Dr. Marneni they offer the latest in Orthodontic care. Dr. Marneni says, "it's a strange paradigm shift that we are seeing with teenagers and braces, somehow braces are now considered very cool". The stigma that used to be associated with braces is now gone, and kids today are actually excited about getting new braces.

Braces over the past decade have gone from stigma to status symbol. The number of North Americans that are 17 and under receiving orthodontic treatment has nearly doubled in the past two decades from slightly more than 2.6 million in 1989 to more than 5 million in 2014. And in other countries braces are considered a sign of wealth and highly sought after.

Believe it or not, braces are so popular today that there are online videos showing teens how to make fake braces using paper clips with millions of views. In some countries the government had to crack down on vendors selling fake braces. Dr. Marneni says, "never in my wildest imagination did I ever believe that braces would become so popular. Today's teenagers expect to have beautiful white smiles and are excited about the orthodontic treatment".

Orthodontics have many more purposes than just cosmetic, orthodontics can also help with the following:

  • Anterior crossbit
  • Underbites
  • Breathing problems
  • Wider skeletal development issues

In addition to teenagers becoming excited about orthodontic braces, adults are also having orthodontic treatments. Most adults are opting for Invisalign because they allow the patient to remove them as needed and they are clear. This season on Ray Donovan you will see Katie Holmes sporting metal braces for her role on the show. Dr. Marneni says, "we are simply seeing braces as a normal part of life these days instead of the stigma of "brace face" that we saw back in the 80's on TV".

Dr. Marneni is a graduate of the prestigious New York school of Dentistry and has been performing dentistry in the Dallas area for over 10 years. She regularly attends orthodontic training and has the latest advancements in Dentistry at her Dallas Dentist practice offering everything from family dentistry to dental implants.
