CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwired - Dec 10, 2013) - Bradford Networks™, the best choice to secure network access for the mobile enterprise, today announced that its customer, Phil Scrivano, former CTO of Las Virgenes Unified School District (LVUSD), has won the prestigious Information Security magazine Security 7 Award in the Education category for his innovative approach to enabling secure BYOD across the school district.
This is the ninth year Information Security has issued the Security 7 Awards to top information security professionals across seven industries including, education, healthcare, financial services, government, manufacturing, retail and telecommunications. Nominated by readers and chosen by the publication, winners represent the most outstanding individuals in the information security field.
Information Security magazine recognized Scrivano for enabling secure Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) across LVUSD'S 17 schools. LVUSD enables each of its 11,500 students and 1,000 staff members to connect to the schools' wireless network quickly, easily and safely with the device of their choice. As a result of Scrivano's vision and commitment, LVUSD teachers are now encouraging their students to participate in new learning techniques using their mobile devices.
"I am humbled to receive this award and be recognized amongst this group of IT innovators," said Scrivano. "I truly believe that embracing mobile devices in the classroom will drive the biggest change to the learning experience in more than 200 years, and I couldn't be more thrilled that my passion has been recognized by such a prestigious publication. I hope that other IT professionals in the educational industry will be able to learn from the work we did at LVUSD and carry this vision into school districts across the country."
LVUSD is using Bradford Networks to enable students and faculty to easily and safely use their mobile devices as part of the 21st century classroom experience. Protecting the school network from threats and unauthorized access is critical to securing LVUSD's sensitive and confidential data.
"We are extremely proud of Phil and his commitment to transforming the learning experience at LVUSD," said Tom Murphy, CMO, Bradford Networks. "The Security 7 Award is a prestigious honor, and we are glad to play a role in improving education at LVUSD for years to come."
Scrivano now serves as the CTO at Montecito Union School District and is also a member of the CETPA (California Educational Technology Professionals Association) board of directors.
