Brakes Put on Worst Roads Campaign Until Next Year

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 16, 2011) - Since 2003, CAA North & East Ontario has been asking the public to name a roadway in their municipality that they deem to be Ontario's Worst Road – and they have answered.

Regardless of the municipality's size, residents have used this annual campaign as a way to voice their concerns about crumbling infrastructure in their respective communities.

This year, we're putting the Worst Roads campaign in park. The campaign will return in 2012 during the spring thaw when roadways are in their worst state and in need of the most attention as a result of the harsh winter weather conditions. This brief hiatus will allow CAA North & East Ontario to update and improve upon the highly-anticipated campaign.

Since its inception, the campaign has seen tremendous success, with 90% of the roads nominated to the annual list being repaired or scheduled to be repaired in the foreseeable future. In 2012, we will be seeking the public's input once again with the goal of ensuring that the senior levels of government continue to provide additional funding to assist municipalities in improving their decaying infrastructure. Ultimately, we want next year's campaign to be the most successful to date.

Last year, six roadways from North & East Ontario municipalities made the Top 20 list of Ontario's Worst Roads, with Pelican Falls Road in Sioux Lookout claiming the top spot.
