BrandProtect Contracts With FDIC for Holistic Approach to Online Risk Management and Brand Protection

TORONTO--(CCNMatthews - March 13, 2007) - BrandProtect, the industry leader in online brand protection, today announced that it has contracted with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), an agency that preserves and promotes public confidence in the U.S. financial system by insuring deposits in banks and thrift institutions, to provide the agency with a full spectrum of online brand protection and anti-phishing services. As part of the agreement, BrandProtect will support the FDIC's efforts to protect consumers by monitoring and addressing potential online fraudulent activity and maintaining the integrity of the FDIC brand online.

With the growth of online commerce, BrandProtect will help the FDIC manage online risks and address the presence of phishing attacks, or fraudulent email scams, where the FDIC brand is referenced to lure consumers onto Web sites under false pretenses to provide their personal and financial data to unauthorized persons. By continuously monitoring the Internet for reference to the FDIC brand, BrandProtect will identify online content where potentially fraudulent activity or brand violation exists. Such false references or use of the FDIC logo can cause unknowing consumers to interact with illegitimate or illegal sources. Other infractions include unauthorized reference to the FDIC brand, which is a federal crime.

Through monthly reports, BrandProtect will provide the FDIC with online analysis of phishing attacks and brand representation by using a combination of highly-skilled personnel and proprietary Internet technology that monitors billions of Web pages. Once relevant brand-related content is identified, BrandProtect's personnel analyze the data for authority, quality and accuracy.
