Breast Augmentation Suitable for Wide Age Range, Reveals Orlando Plastic Surgeon

Dr. James A. Matas Discusses Candidacy Limitations for Breast Augmentation Based on Age Range, Touching on Patient Motivations for Delaying Cosmetic Breast Surgery

ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwired - Jul 7, 2015) - Many people assume that most breast augmentation patients are quite young, typically in their early to mid 20s; however, many women in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and beyond seek out cosmetic breast surgery, reveals Dr. James Matas, a plastic surgeon in Orlando. He indicates that delaying breast enhancement surgery until the time is right for the individual can be beneficial in many ways. Mature women, he explains, often hold off until childbearing years have passed, and they have the time and resources to devote to an elective procedure. Every age range, he suggests, presents its own set of benefits and drawbacks.

There is no set upper age limit for breast augmentation, Dr. Matas states. With a few exceptions, younger patients typically must be between 18-22 for breast enhancement surgery, depending on the breast implant type they select, while candidacy for older women often will be determined by overall health, skin quality, and other anatomic considerations separate from age, he clarifies. "If a patient can undergo the operative procedure safely, then I will conduct a consultation regarding their condition, the suggested procedure, possible risks and complication[s], together with costs involved."

Dr. Matas says he hopes that by clarifying the advantages of undergoing breast augmentation later in life, more women who are considering this procedure will feel comfortable discussing their cosmetic goals with a board-certified plastic surgeon. Additionally, he notes that patients who may be considering revision breast surgery or breast implant replacement can utilize this information to further their research.
