Brevard County Chiropractor Announces Whiplash and Auto Injury Treatment

MERRITT ISLAND, FL--(Marketwire - Nov 9, 2011) - The Spine Center of Brevard announced that the practice provides chiropractic care for auto injury victims. The practice treats whiplash injuries, soft tissue injuries, herniated disks and other personal injuries that are caused by an auto accident. Treatment options include spinal decompression therapy, physical therapy, massage therapy and corrective exercises. The practice emphasizes care through a "treat and release" program rather than the need for ongoing treatment.

Merritt Island chiropractor, Dr. Joshua Flinn announced that his practice, Spine Center of Brevard, provides chiropractic treatment for auto injury victims.

According to Dr. Flinn, every year there are more than 3 million rear-end auto accidents. Two years later, more than 50% of the victims will still be suffering from pain due to the accident.

"Unfortunately, because of delayed treatment, many accident victims continue to suffer back pain and headaches long after the crash," said Dr. Flinn. "A whiplash injury, for example, can cause serious trauma to the musculoskeletal system and soft tissues. As long as the injury remains, patients will continue to experience pain. Our goal is to restore normal function by treating the underlying injury while also providing immediate pain relief."

The practice provides chiropractic adjustments, spinal decompression therapy, massage therapy, physical therapy and corrective exercises to help patients heal. These treatments focus on addressing the cause of the pain -- many times a herniated disk -- while also addressing pain management.

Dr. Flinn works closely with local doctors to treat patients, emphasizing a "treat and release" program and at-home care through corrective exercises.

"Many of our patients who are auto accident victims are not sure what to do immediately following a crash," said Dr. Flinn. "We encourage all victims to seek immediate evaluation by a qualified chiropractor. The earlier an injury is diagnosed, the more treatment options are available."

A whiplash injury occurs with the force of a rear-end accident impact "thrusts" the cervical spine backwards and forwards. This abrupt movement causes abnormal strain of the soft tissues in the neck and upper back, as well as lower back structures.

Dr. Flinn stressed that early treatment following a whiplash injury was essential to preventing chronic pain.

"Traditional treatment has been to immobilize the injured area for a significant period of time in addition to prescription pain or anti-inflammatory medication," said Dr. Flinn. "More recent research now shows that an active care approach, which includes stretching and strengthening exercises along with joint mobilization, is far more effective."

Dr. Flinn frequently presents educational classes at local schools about effective treatments for whiplash injuries as well as safe driving tips to avoid the accident.

"From the proper use of turn signals to passing safely on the left side, rather than the right, there are many things individuals can do every day to be safer drivers," said Dr. Flinn. "Through safe driving, individuals can reduce their risk of sustaining a serious car accident injury like whiplash."
