BRIDGE Energy Group and PG&E Increase Data Accuracy, Improving Electric Grid Operations

New Dashboard Display Enables Accurate and Quick Decisions

NEWTON, MA--(Marketwired - Dec 13, 2016) - BRIDGE Energy Group (BRIDGE) today announced that Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is using their new SCADA Data Availability Dashboard (SDAD) to monitor and track SCADA Data Accuracy. This dashboard provides users with a graphical representation of Transmission & Distribution Substation SCADA availability metrics, improving grid reliability and customer satisfaction.

Based in San Francisco, PG&E is one of the largest combination natural gas and electric utilities in the U.S. With approximately 20,000 employees, the company provides service to nearly 16 million customers across a 70,000-square-mile service area in northern and central California.

To meet its corporate objectives involving safety, grid reliability and customer service, PG&E's Grid Managers and Sub-Station Automation & Engineering Groups (Engineering, Planners, Operations, Control Center Dispatchers, Asset Management) must be able to rely on accurate data from SCADA systems. The new SDAD improves availability and accuracy metrics, identifies inconsistencies across the data path and significantly increases the operational performance of PG&E's field crews, planners and engineers, lessening the manual efforts needed to plan, operate and maintain PG&E's electric system.

PG&E selected BRIDGE to create the SDAD which provides users with the means to easily analyze data trends across a specified time and determine SCADA data health and performance trends. The new dashboard also allows users to drill-down into, or summarize the SCADA availability metrics in various ways (e.g. headquarter, substation, or asset), as well as easily run reports to export the data into a variety of formats for presentations and sharing. Automated reporting enables a consistent approach to evaluating and validating estimates.

"BRIDGE provides deep T&D Operations expertise, knowledge of industry best practices, and a comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end SCADA data acquisition process," said Scott Bricker, Manager, System Automation and SCADA. "The BRIDGE team helped identify gaps in data governance and technology support processes, substation equipment, communications infrastructure and data accuracy and provided PG&E the SCADA Data Availability Dashboard (SDAD) to improve PG&E Operational Performance."

The infrastructure and architecture that BRIDGE developed for SDAD was designed leveraging OSIsoft PI Asset Framework. "We are proud to support PG&E's continuous improvement initiative by delivering the tools that provide transparency and awareness of SCADA data availability and accuracy," said Mike Bianco, Vice President of Grid Operations Solutions, BRIDGE Energy Group. "Using the new SDAD system, PG&E is now able to accurately optimize maintenance schedules and prioritize improvement investments to continuously improve the efficiency and reliability of their system."
