Bridgewater Systems Expands Its Dynamic Broadband Manager to Support Wireless Applications

MIAMI--(CCNMatthews - Sep 12, 2005) -

Policy-Based Resource Management Helps 3G Carriers Apply Fair-Use Policies to Bandwidth, Generate New Revenue Through Enhanced Bandwidth Utilization

Today at CDMA Americas, Bridgewater Systems announced the addition of broadband wireless support to its Dynamic Broadband Manager product. Bridgewater Systems is a leading developer of subscriber-centric policy management software for IP-based services. General availability of 3G wireless support for Dynamic Broadband Manager is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2005.

Bridgewater Systems' Dynamic Broadband Manager is a comprehensive policy management solution that now provides the ability for wireless, as well as wireline, broadband carriers to deliver real-time policy enforcement and service provisioning. This technology ensures that subscribers are provisioned to access services on demand, have access only to authorized services and that revenue for use of these services is realized in real time.

Wireless carriers can also use Dynamic Broadband Manager to maximize the value of network resources by mapping revenue to bandwidth usage on a per-subscriber basis. This technology applies specific bandwidth usage policies to each subscriber, enabling business models based on linking revenue with the network resources each subscriber uses.

"Broadband wireless carriers risk runaway bandwidth usage and lost revenue in the absence of technology to match subscribers with the network resources they consume," said Bettina Tratz-Ryan, research director for Gartner. "The ability to map revenue to resource usage is essential to realizing the revenue potential of 3G networks and assuring quality."

Dynamic Broadband Manager provides the additional benefit of enabling wireless carriers to manage fair use of their network capacity by subscribers. These policies ensure service quality for paying subscribers and can direct subscribers who dis-proportionally draw on bandwidth resources to paid upgrade offers. Wireless carriers also can employ subscriber-centric parental control and other automated content filtering services. Additionally, the provider can significantly reduce provisioning expenses by offering their subscribers Web-based management of services.

Wireless carriers using Dynamic Broadband Manager can also leverage the technology's service tier features to achieve new revenue streams by attracting subscribers with economical, lower-bandwidth service packages. Wireless carriers may also draw on this flexibility to offer higher-priced premium service tiers for bandwidth-intensive applications, including video and gaming, once subscribers have tasted the rich experience enabled by faster bandwidth.

"Dynamic Broadband Manager helps wireless operators provide the dynamic, real time, personalized subscriber control necessary to ensure available bandwidth for revenue-generating services," said Russ Freen, CTO for Bridgewater Systems. "Our proven wireless industry acumen combined with successful Dynamic Broadband Manager deployments in the networks of Tier-1 wireline carriers, enables Bridgewater to deliver a powerful broadband management solution for wireless and wireline service providers."

Many of the world's largest network operators employ Bridgewater Systems' policy-based solutions to automate such advanced management capabilities as creating and enforcing managed service tiers, bandwidth on-demand, quota-based bandwidth metered services and limits for unauthorized traffic.
