Brisbane Grammar School Chooses Xirrus to Realise Vision of 'Always Connected' Learning Across 40-Acre Campus

Xirrus Wireless Arrays Perform in High Density Settings With Superior Coverage

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA--(Marketwire - Nov 29, 2012) - Xirrus®, the leader in high-performance wireless networks, today announced the deployment of its Xirrus Wireless Arrays at Brisbane Grammar School in Queensland, Australia. The deployment will help the school realise its vision of every student having access to technology whenever and wherever they need it. Brisbane Grammar School has approximately 1500 students in years six to twelve.

Michael Lowbridge, Director of ICT at the school, said: "We believe access to technology is of paramount importance in supporting one-to-one learning and wireless is a critical component from an infrastructure perspective. Our school grounds cover over 40 acres and we needed a robust solution that could provide seamless access to the internet, resources and technology across the site. It is pointless having a computer or tablet if you can't access resources when and where you need them."

Brisbane Grammar School installed 53 Xirrus Wireless Arrays, replacing 160 existing Cisco access points. The installation was fully operational within four days. Xirrus was chosen because of the company's reputation in solving not only coverage issues, but also density and bandwidth issues.

"Before selecting a provider, we conducted a comprehensive site survey in order to assess coverage and identify any interference with the signal. Xirrus was a clear choice because of its ability to provide superior connectivity in high density settings and its scale-out capabilities," said Lowbridge. "It is pointless having an access point in several classrooms when you have sixty, ninety or even a hundred students unable to log on to devices simultaneously. Density was critical and that is why we chose Xirrus. In a four storey building, we just need four arrays to cover five hundred students at any one time."

Sean Larner, VP of International Sales at Xirrus, said: "Ubiquitous and reliable Wi-Fi coverage is becoming a necessity in the education industry. Today's generation of students rely heavily on technology and will continue to do so. Establishments such as Brisbane Grammar School that are taking initiative will be well placed to support the growing use of mobile devices and deliver next generation experiences to their students."
