Brita FilterForGood Music Project Teams Up With Janelle Monae for Fall 2011 Campus Consciousness Tour, Introduces HydrateU for College Students

Tour Will Combine Music, Environmental Awareness and New Ways for Students to Reduce Bottled Water Waste

OAKLAND, CA--(Marketwire - Oct 4, 2011) - GRAMMY-nominated artist Janelle Monáe is set to headline the seventh biannual Campus Consciousness Tour (CCT) presented by the Brita FilterForGood Music Project. The college tour runs from Oct. 1 to Oct. 22, visiting campuses along the East Coast and Midwest with a message of environmental sustainability and ways students can reduce their bottled water waste.

"I love the idea of bringing more of an overall experience onto college campuses," says Janelle Monáe. "CCT has the right formula by combining music and activism and delivering it in a fun and appealing way to students around the country. I look forward to being a part of this unique tour."

As the CCT presenting sponsor, Brita FilterForGood Music Project works with fans and artists to make concerts more sustainable by encouraging fans to use Brita® filtered water and a reusable bottle instead of bottled water. So far, the movement has saved more than 338 million plastic bottles from potentially ending up in landfills.

At the Campus Consciousness Tour, concert-goers can stop by the Brita FilterForGood Music Project tent and do their part to reduce bottled water waste by filling up a reusable bottle with free Brita® filtered water. Students can also play games to win prizes, learn more about the Brita FilterForGood Music Project as well as other student programs like HydrateU, a program in partnership with Brita FilterForGood and Haws Corporation, the manufacturer of the Brita® Hydration Station™.

Designed to help colleges and student organizations reduce their bottled water waste, HydrateU invites students to purchase custom Brita FilterForGood Nalgene bottles featuring their school's logo. For every 500 Nalgene bottles purchased by students on campus, the school will receive a free Brita® Hydration Station™ and an Eco-Grant to help students make an environmental difference on campus. About The Brita FilterForGood Music Project:
As part of the Brita FilterForGood campaign, the Brita FilterForGood Music Project works with fans and green-minded artists like Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews Band, Lady Antebellum and Guster to make concerts more sustainable by providing free Brita® filtered water from Brita® Hydration Stations™ and reusable Nalgene bottles. The Brita FilterForGood Music Project also encourages fans to bring the movement home by taking the Brita FilterForGood pledge to reduce bottled water waste and recycling their Brita® filters.

In 2007, Brita partnered with Nalgene® to create the FilterForGood® movement, which encourages people to reduce their bottled water waste by switching to reusable bottles filled with filtered water. Each year, Americans purchase billions of plastic water bottles; most of them end up in landfills. Since the campaign launch, more than 319,000 people** have taken the pledge to reduce their bottled water waste, keeping an estimated 338 million disposable bottles*** out of landfills.
