As BCIT approaches its 50th anniversary celebration, the BCIT Board of Governors is pleased to announce the appointment of Kathy Kinloch as President effective January 2014. Kathy is a widely recognized educational leader and has served as President of Vancouver Community College (VCC) since 2010 where she oversaw a re-positioning of the College.

As Dean of the BCIT School of Health Sciences from 2007 to 2010, Kathy was instrumental in leading a "turn-around" to re-engage and increase BCIT's relevance in addressing health sector needs. Kathy then went on to serve as President of VCC where she devoted her time to better focusing programming to meet student, industry and community needs; improving operational efficiency; and building VCC's brand appeal and community engagement.

Kathy's career includes senior leadership positions in health, government and post-secondary education where she has successfully led strategy development. Kathy has served as Senior Advisor, British Columbia Ministry of Health Services and was integral to the development of a provincial surgical "wait times" strategy. She also has worked as a Chief Operating Officer, Fraser Health, Regional Vice-President, South Fraser, and Vice President at Surrey Memorial Hospital.

Kathy holds a Bachelor of Science (Nursing) from the University of Alberta, a Master's Degree in Leadership, and a Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching, both from Royal Roads University.

"It is a privilege to join an institute that is so integral to the prosperity of British Columbia," says Kathy Kinloch, incoming President at BCIT. "I am excited to have the opportunity to lead BCIT as it builds on its strong legacy of commitment to career success for all its students."

"On behalf of the BCIT Board of Governors, I would like to formally welcome Kathy back to the BCIT team," says Taj Mitha, Chair, BCIT Board of Governors. "Kathy's credentials are impeccable and the Board of Governors is confident that she is the right individual to lead the Institute at this critical time. We are certain that under Ms. Kinloch's guidance, BCIT will continue to effectively support the economic and workforce objectives of BC's jobs plan."

As the first female president of BCIT, Kathy joins the Institute at a key moment in BCIT history as it prepares to advance its new strategic plan and celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2014.
