British Columbia Lottery Corporation: Lotteries Search for Communities' Local Sports Heroes

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 3, 2006) - British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) is calling on British Columbians to submit photos of their local amateur sports stars in action to the Homegrown Heroes contest. Winning photos will be featured on upcoming SportsFunder lottery tickets. SportsFunder is the new suite of lottery games where proceeds will be directed to amateur sports in B.C.

To enter, email your photo and the name of the athlete(s) featured in the photo to Only photos of athletes over 19 years of age will be considered for this competition.

Contest closes on August 13, 2006. Submitted photos will be judged by a panel of BCLC representatives and five winners will be selected. Not only will the winners have their photo displayed on tickets sold across the province, each winner will also receive a SportsFunder Prize Pack valued at $150.

Proceeds from SportsFunder lottery games will directly support: 1) Sport BC's KidSport™ program providing sport registration grants to financially disadvantaged children; 2) Game Plan/Team BC, providing support for high-performance B.C. athletes; 3) financial assistance for coaching development; and 4) travel assistance for B.C. athletes to access training facilities and sporting competitions.

SportsFunder was developed in celebration of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games. BCLC's partnership with the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games (VANOC) provides BCLC with sponsorship rights for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and also includes rights to the Canadian Olympic Team for Torino 2006, Beijing 2008, Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 Games.
