British Columbia Lottery Corporation/Media Release: Happy Father's Day-Surrey Dad Wins $22 Million

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - June 16, 2008) - Surrey father Gary Sobolik enjoyed a special Father's Day yesterday when he learned his Lotto 6/49 ticket matched six out of six numbers in Saturday's draw. As a result, today British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) will present Sobolik with a cheque for $21.9 million.

"I shared the news with my family and two kids yesterday and they were all very excited," exclaimed Sobolik. "With a win like this a lot of stuff goes through your head like 'What are we going to do with this?'"

Sobolik checked his Quick Dip ticket, purchased at Family Lucky Holdings lottery kiosk located outside Safeway at the Sunshine Hills plaza in Delta, early Sunday morning. He had to check the ticket several times as he could not believe his eyes.

"When I first told my mother she thought I was kidding," said Sobolik, a hot-rod enthusiast who plans to buy a home and a couple of new vehicles, including a hybrid.

Lotto 6/49 is the nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 6 p.m. (PST). Players can purchase tickets at any lottery retailer or at PlayNow on

BCLC is a provincial Crown Corporation reporting to the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General through a Board of Directors. Its mission is to offer responsible gaming entertainment, generating income for the public good.
