British Columbia Lottery Corporation/Media Release: Lottery Winner Not Playing for the Cash!

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - May 13, 2008) - While most people would be thrilled to win a top prize of $75,000, Lorraine Fawcett of Mission isn't quite sure what she'll do with the money as she doesn't play SportsFunder First Tickets to 2010 lottery games for the cash.

Fawcett surprised British Columbia Lottery Corporation staff when she admitted that, while she was happy to win the top cash prize, she was more interested in winning tickets to the Opening Ceremony for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

"I've been buying a ticket a week religiously hoping to win Opening Ceremony tickets," admitted Fawcett. Despite holding a cheque for $75,000, she has no plans to quit playing, "I'm still going to keep trying to win Opening Ceremony tickets - they're the reason I've been playing. And the money goes to a good cause."

Through the $5 SportsFunder First Tickets to 2010 lottery players have the chance to win one of 100 pairs of tickets to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games Opening Ceremony. In addition to offering the chance to win tickets to the Opening Ceremony and $1,000 spending money, the $5 SportsFunder First Tickets to 2010 also features $1 million in cash prizes. The overall odds of winning any prize are approximately 1:4.

The winning ticket was purchased at Save-On-Foods on London Avenue in Mission.

Proceeds from the sale of SportsFunder lottery games support amateur sports in B.C. through KidSport™, Team BC, Youth Sport Travel Assistance, and Coach and Leadership Development. KidSport™ provides financial assistance to children who wish to play sports but cannot afford the registration fees. Team BC gives athletic development support to provincial teams representing B.C. at Canada's premier multi-sport events.
