British Columbia Lottery Corporation: Top-Notch Gaming Facility Opens in Courtenay

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Feb. 28, 2008) - After 11 months of construction, a new entertainment centre has opened its doors in Courtenay. British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) and Playtime Community Gaming Centres Inc. are pleased to announce the official opening of Chances Courtenay on February 29, featuring a stunning West Coast theme, the latest in gaming options, and great amenities for locals and visitors alike.

"British Columbia Lottery Corporation is proud to work with the City of Courtenay and Playtime Community Gaming Centres Inc. to open this new facility," said Marsha Walden, BCLC's Vice-President, Bingo Gaming. "Whether you'd like to try a game of chance, get a bite to eat with your friends or sit back and enjoy live music, there is something for everyone at Chances Courtenay."

Located at 361 Hunt Road, this new 17,000 square foot facility offers 74 slot machines, one electronic Blackjack game, 90 touch screen bingo terminals, 115 paper bingo seats, and lottery products. In addition, players can enjoy great food service at the 30-seat bistro, and socialize with friends at the 65-seat lounge.

"Playtime is pleased to open its second Chances location on Vancouver Island," said Tom Nellis, CEO, Playtime Community Gaming Centres Inc. "Our players can now enjoy a unique entertainment experience right here in Courtenay."

BCLC contracts with Playtime Community Gaming Centres Inc. to provide day-to-day operational services for this facility. Chances Courtenay replaces Valley Bingo Palace, which operated on Kilpatrick Avenue since 1986.

In fiscal year 2006/7, 73 charitable and community organizations in the Courtenay area received $1.7 million in community gaming grants, including almost $1.2 million through bingo affiliation and $500,000 from direct access programs.

BCLC is committed to revitalizing B.C.'s commercial bingo industry in a socially responsible manner by offering an exciting entertainment experience in first-class facilities. Chances Courtenay will have a Self-Serve Responsible Play Information Centre to provide customer education and support related to responsible play and problem gambling.
