British Columbia's Central and Northern Interior Gets Ready to Celebrate Canada

PRINCE GEORGE, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - May 29, 2015) - Department of Canadian Heritage

Seven organizations in the Central and Northern Interior of British Columbia got a boost today when Dick Harris, Member of Parliament (Cariboo-Prince George), announced a total of $10,766 in funding to support National Aboriginal Day, Canadian Multicultural Day, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, and Canada Day celebrations. Mr. Harris made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

This investment, provided through the Celebrate Canada program, will enable these organizations to offer their residents engaging cultural programming, as well as opportunities to learn about Canada's history and heritage. In 2014, the Government of Canada invested in more than 1,600 projects and events across the country under the auspices of the Celebrate Canada program.

• Three organizations will receive funding to celebrate National Aboriginal Day: the Northern Shuswap Tribal Society in Williams Lake, School District #28 in Quesnel, and the North Cariboo Aboriginal Family Program Society in Quesnel.
• The District of Wells will receive funding in support of Wells Multiculturalism Day.
• Le Cercle des Canadiens-Français de Prince George will receive funding to present Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day activities, during which they will also celebrate the 50^th Anniversary of the National Flag of Canada.
