British Label Champs Hill Joins the Naxos Family of Distributed Labels

FRANKLIN, TN and SUSSEX, UK--(Marketwire - March 19, 2010) -  Beginning on April 1, 2010, Naxos of America will begin distribution of the British boutique label Champs Hill in the United States and Canada.

Located in the West Sussex countryside, Champs Hill has become a venue of choice for recitals and chamber music, both for live concerts and for recordings. In the fall of 2009, Champs Hill Records was launched as an independent label dedicated to recordings made at the hall. The label features both new releases and some highlights from the back-catalogs of ASV, Black Box, Quartz and Sanctuary.

Releases on Champs Hill include Call me Flott, a collection of light-hearted songs by Britten, Barber, Poulenc, Berlin, Coward and Porter featuring Dame Felicity Lott and Graham Johnson. In 1999, Dame Felicity was the first artist to give a recital at the hall, and she has made many recordings there since then.

Other recordings include a two-CD set of chamber music by Ludwig Thuille (1861-1907), a close friend of composer Richard Strauss. This release brings together remastered versions of recordings made for Quartz and ASV by the London Conchord Ensemble and by the Falk Quartet with pianist Tomer Lev. These Thuille recordings will be followed up with new recordings of the composer's string quartets and his sonatas for violin and cello, creating a complete set of his chamber music. The final release is a recording of chamber music by César Franck featuring the Schubert Ensemble. The recording includes Franck's Quintet and the Violin Sonata with Simon Blendis & William Howard.
