Broadband Physics, Inc. Demonstrates Next Step Towards Delivering Native 100+Mbps Over Cable at CableLabs® Summer Conference

KEYSTONE, CO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 15, 2005 -- Broadband Physics, Inc., demonstrates 50Mbps digital capacity in a standard TV channel to the North American cable industry at CableLabs'® annual Summer Conference.

"Going from 50Mbps to 100Mbps is a straightforward matter of increasing the channel size from 6Mhz to 12Mhz," says Mark Laubach, CEO. "We're testing at 6MHz because of the familiarity of a standard channel size in combination with the scarcity of even finding 6MHz for testing in live revenue bearing cable networks. Going to 18Mhz and 150+Mbps per device is also part of our product plans."

"Imagine 100+Mbps of uncomplicated native downstream capacity in every cable device in the home," furthers Laubach. "Our implementation is a clean restart using the next generation of innovative mathematics. We call it Sub-Band Division Multiplexing (SDM). SDM fits neatly into the downstream architecture created by DOCSIS 2.0 and at the same silicon cost of today's 64/256QAM. No changes are required to the cable plant. SDM can be rolled in to service as part of planned head-end and subscriber equipment changes."

"In the CableNET® pavilion at NCTA 2005, we demonstrated 70Mbps raw capacity in a 6MHz base-band channel with an equivalent data rate approximating 4096QAM's 12 bits per second per Hertz," says Tracy Hall, Director of Systems Engineering. "As the industry knows, a live cable plant is a much more hostile environment for modulation. We're pleased to say that our initial testing on cable is meeting our expectations for delivering excellent performance for our 10 bit per second per Hertz operation mode."

SDM is based on the application of wavelet mathematics to native digital signal transmission. Broadband Physics is focused on bringing its SDM technology to market for cable networks. SDM provides the highest digital capacity and RF efficiency as compared to any other broadband modulation.
