Broadleaf Services Works With RSG to Improve Management of Data Infrastructure

BURLINGTON, MA--(Marketwire - December 7, 2010) - Broadleaf, a leader in designing and implementing vendor solutions for data storage, virtualization and WAN optimization, announced that Vermont-based Resource Systems Group (RSG) engaged Broadleaf to move the organization's infrastructure from physical servers with direct attached storage to virtualized servers with a storage area network (SAN). The goal for the project was to provide better management of their data infrastructure.

Broadleaf recommended server virtualization and shared storage to reduce general system overhead, provide flexibility to improve availability and recoverability, consolidate the hardware infrastructure, and build the foundation for a scalable platform. By implementing server virtualization when a server refresh was needed, RSG was able to greatly reduce the footprint of physical hardware. Server virtualization removed hardware dependence and allows servers to be restarted quickly on other physical hosts as needed. Further, moving data out of the servers to an enterprise class shared storage solution provides RSG with increased reliability, flexibility and ease of management. Space efficient snapshots on the shared storage allow data to be recovered promptly in the event of any type of onsite data loss. Not only is the recovery prompt but based on the snapshot schedule, the recovered data is more current than a previous night's tape backup. RSG also is contracting to have a disaster recovery target at a co-lo to provide protection in the event of site disaster.

"Our new infrastructure provides a flexible platform so that IT can be more pro-active and more responsive to our end users and the business. Without the work that Broadleaf did, RSG would not be able to take on the business and projects that we now do." - Tim Young, Director of Technology, RSG
