BroadSoft Launching Operations in China to Provide Its VoIP and IMS Portfolio

BroadSoft Announces Plans to Open Office in China to Roll Out BroadWorks Platform for Wireline and Wireless Telephony

BEIJING -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 22, 2007 -- BroadSoft, Inc., a leading provider of VoIP application software, today announced that it is launching its award-winning BroadWorks® VoIP and IMS platform in China and is opening an office in Beijing to market its applications. BroadSoft expects its Beijing office to be the first step in building operations in China to serve the quickly changing needs of telecom operators in that market.

Recent data reported by research firm ATLANTIC-ACM estimates that the total number of VoIP subscribers in China should grow to 70 million by 2011.

"When China eases its restrictions on VoIP termination to the public switched telephone network, this country will see explosive growth in the adoption of VoIP services for large enterprises, SMBs and residential users," said Michael Tessler, president and CEO for BroadSoft. "We are certain that China's service providers can benefit from BroadWorks, especially as the need for a stable, scalable platform becomes more evident when end-user demand surges."

Telecom providers in the APAC region are aggressively introducing new IP-based communications services, such as hosted voice and the extension of VoIP services to mobile devices, based on BroadSoft's BroadWorks. The platform offers the most complete range of advanced voice features available, including auto-attendant, unified voicemail, call transfer & divert, conference bridging and simultaneous ring -- where calls to an office number will automatically ring any other device specified by the end-user, such as mobile and home phones.

BroadWorks is the platform of choice for seven of the world's 10 largest telecom providers, and provides revenue-generating voice features for fixed-line and wireless service providers. BroadWorks offers the widest array of applications from a single platform, including Hosted PBX, Mobile PBX, Business Trunking, IP Centrex, Residential Broadband and fixed-mobile convergence solutions. BroadWorks delivers these applications with carrier-grade interoperability, back office capabilities, redundancy, and scalability.

The BroadWorks platform has been deployed in dozens of IMS incumbent networks worldwide. In IMS architecture, third-party applications such as presence can be easily integrated with BroadWorks' rich feature set, which allows service operators to create new, differentiated services.

With its leading technology and solutions, BroadSoft has worked with channel partners in China since 2003 and has several relationships with telecom providers in the country. In early 2007, China-based Huawei Technologies entered into an agreement with BroadSoft to resell the BroadWorks IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) application platform.

To meet the needs of the China market and to better cooperate with local partners, BroadSoft plans to open an office in Beijing in late June. BroadSoft plans to expand operations in China around the Beijing office to serve the market in China. Yao Zhang recently joined BroadSoft as its general manager for China and will head the Beijing office.

Zhang recently served in sales management roles at Nortel Networks, including as general manager of the Great China East & Central regions. He brings to BroadSoft's China operation more than 25 years of experience in telecommunications sales and management, and established relationships with the country's leading service providers.

In early May, BroadSoft announced the appointment of Jonathan Reid as vice president of Asia Pacific. Reid has substantial experience in the Chinese market. He has more than 15 years of international business development and sales experience in several industries, including software and telecommunications. He joined BroadSoft after serving as the managing director of APAC for Sylantro Systems Corp., where he drove business development and led APAC activities, including establishing a regional headquarters in China.

"Both Jonathan and Yao bring to our China operation local knowledge and expertise of the telecom industry," said Tessler. "With our new Beijing office, these impressive executives will lead BroadSoft's efforts to assist China's telecoms in deploying feature-rich, revenue-generating VoIP services to any device -- desk phones, PCs and mobile phones."

"China's service providers will benefit from increased access to BroadSoft's platform and VoIP expertise as the market focus evolves from price competition to the delivery of value-added services," said Reid. "BroadWorks has the right application to match operators' target audiences -- SIP trunking for customers with premise telecom equipment; Hosted PBX for customers who want to outsource management of their voice services; and Mobile PBX for those who want the enhanced features of Hosted PBX with the mobility of wireless service."
