Brookline College Announces New Opportunity in Nursing to Help Individuals Change Careers

Albuquerque Campus to Offer Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing for Baccalaureate Degree Graduates

ALBUQUERQUE, NM--(Marketwire - March 15, 2011) -  Brookline College, a multi-campus higher education company, announced it has begun accepting applications for a bachelor of science in nursing for baccalaureate degree graduates program at its new Brookline College Nursing Department Learning Site, located at 4775 Indian School Rd., N.E., Suite 310.

The first class in the nursing program is scheduled to begin in May of 2011. Brookline College's main Albuquerque Campus, located at 4201 Central Ave NW, will continue to offer programs in health care, legal studies and business.

The full-time, approximately 16-month program prepares individuals who already have a bachelor's degree and required prerequisite courses to prepare for a career as a nurse. After successfully completing the program, students will be awarded a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and will be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN examination.

A special information event will be held on March 23 at 6 p.m. The event will include program overviews, tours of the facility, demonstrations, giveaways and refreshments.

According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), the latest data show that more than 54,000 qualified applications to professional nursing programs were turned away in 2009, (www.aacn.nche.edu/media/newsreleases/2010/enrollchanges.html).

"As a nursing educator for the past 30 years, I understand the critical need to educate more nurses, especially those at the bachelor's level," said Dr. Carol Kleinman, Executive Dean of Nursing at Brookline College. "With this new Brookline College program, students will have the opportunity to get a quality education in an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program."

"Students will likely come from a wide variety of backgrounds and majors," said Kleinman. "This program is for students who always wanted to become a nurse but didn't or those who are looking for better advancement opportunities, salaries and benefits."
