Brown Stove Works Launches Industry's First Heat-Sensing Range That Reduces Risk of Cooking Fires

New HeatSense™ Electric Range Uses Patent-Pending Coil Logic™ Technology to Keep Cooking Temperatures Below the Ignition Point for Standard Cooking Oils

CLEVELAND, TN--(Marketwired - October 09, 2014) - Brown Stove Works, Inc., a leading manufacturer of gas and electric cooking appliances, announced today the introduction of the cooking appliance industry's first and only electric range designed to reduce the risk of range top cooking fires. The new HeatSense™ Range uses an innovative, patent-pending heat-sensing technology to carefully monitor the cooking temperatures of cookware and modulate the top coil elements to keep the cooking temperatures below the ignition point of standard cooking oils. The factory installed HeatSense technology will significantly reduce the risk of unattended cooking fires while maintaining steady cooking performance and providing satisfactory boil results on all top coil elements.

"The National Fire Protection Association considers unattended cooking fires to be the leading source of home fires and home fire injuries," said Jeff Essenburg, Vice President of Sales for Brown Stove Works. "Multi-family housing, apartment managers and public housing directors constantly seek ways to reduce the risk of cooking fires, and we responded by developing the HeatSense Range."

Unattended cooking fires are the leading cause of residential cooking fires. A recent study from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) found that more than 25,000 people were injured in residential cooking fires during a recent five-year span that also caused more than $4 billion in direct property damage.

Essenburg continued, "In keeping with National Fire Protection Week, our industry must do more to raise awareness about the dangers associated with unattended cooking. While public education is important, Brown is leading the way on this issue by introducing an electric range that provides a way for developers, property managers and public housing directors to reduce the risk of unattended range top cooking fires and to protect the health and safety of their tenants."

The HeatSense Range is available today in 20", 24" and 30" sizes and comes in black, white or bisque colors. In addition, each HeatSense Range will feature one large 8" surface element and three standard 6" elements; easy-to-clean, one-piece drip pans; and convenient front controls. All models are CSA Certified to UL858 standards.
