Brown University Digital Media Team Wins Innovation Award for Image Gallery

Interdepartmental Team at Brown Wins Award for New Process for Managing Digital Media by Using Widen's Digital Asset Management System

MADISON, WI--(Marketwired - Apr 8, 2014) - The digital asset management (DAM) team at Brown University won the 2014 Brown Excellence Award for Innovation for their implementation of The Brown Image Gallery, a central place for public affairs, and other offices around campus to post images for campus use. The Brown Image Gallery is powered by Widen Enterprises' Media Collective DAM platform.

The award is presented to an individual or team that has developed and/or implemented an innovative program, service, policy, or process that has had resoundingly positive impact on a department, Brown University, or the greater community. Prior to implementing Widen's DAM, assets such as images, logos, audio files, video files, documents, and brochures, existed in multiple places, in multiple formats, and also lacked description. This made assets harder to find and easier to lose. Brown's staff understood this problem, and became concerned with maintaining their department's and the University's visual identity.

The award highlights innovators that envisioned and implemented novel ideas and new methods that effect powerful change. Brown's staff recognized the problem with managing their assets and worked with Widen's attentive support and development teams to launch the Brown Image Gallery, and to help develop Widen's Drupal plugin. The Drupal plugin allowed Brown's webmasters to have direct and current access to imagery contained within the image gallery without leaving the user interface of their Drupal CMS.

"The DAM changed our staff's perceptions of what is available to them. We wanted to share more imagery, but the infrastructure simply didn't exist," stated Kevin Powell, digital asset specialist with Brown. "Now, with the Brown Image Gallery, departments are mindful of the content they're creating, and many of them are starting to work with the DAM as a method to organize and maintain content."

"Kevin and his team performed exceptionally well managing the deployment of a new technology," commented Matthew Gonnering, CEO of Widen. "In our industry, it's ok to say they are DAM good because they really are incredible at digital asset management (DAM). We were happy to be part of it and are grateful for them as an active customer leveraging the full scale of Widen DAM in the interest of managing critical content."
