Browns Restaurant Group Appoints New Executive Chef, Marketing Director

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Sept. 24, 2013) - Browns Restaurant Group (BRG) is pleased to announce that Jason Labahn and Andrea Baxter have joined the Browns family as Executive Chef and Director of Marketing, respectively.

A graduate of the Florida Culinary Institute in West Palm Beach, Labahn brings to Browns a wealth of experience after mastering his culinary skills at a number of high-end establishments in Las Vegas including The Mirage Resort, Bellagio, Wynn Resort & Wolfgang Puck Springs Preserve. In 2011, he was lured to Vancouver by the Glowbal Group as Executive Chef for Black and Blue Restaurant and The Roof at Black and Blue.

As Executive Chef, Labahn will play a key role in shepherding Browns' new Culinary Test Kitchen, set to open alongside a new flagship Socialhouse in Langley, B.C. in early 2014. The test kitchen will feature a connecting boardroom for demonstrations and training and boasts state-of-the-art audio/visual capabilities that will allow Browns to communicate new menu items and preparation techniques with multiple outlets across North American in a user-friendly way via the Internet.

A seasoned veteran with expertise in the fields of franchising, branding and communications, Baxter has previously worked with some of North America's award-winning brands like 1-800-GOT-JUNK?, Blast Radius and Vision Critical. She put herself firmly on the map in 2006 when she co-founded a women's money-mentoring brand called Smart Cookies, earning an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show, co-authoring two best-selling books and building the company into a successful multimedia firm that has been featured on CNN, MSNBC, The Today Show and in publications such as The New York Times and Money Magazine. In 2009, Baxter went on to found her own consultancy firm, Bratface Marketing, and provided brand development, communication and digital and social-media strategies for a wide range of clients including Obakki, Return Path, Survivor Bootcamp and Blu Living. In 2011, she was named one of Business in Vancouver's prestigious "Top 40 Under 40".

As Browns' Director of Marketing - also known as "Chief Storyteller" - Baxter's core responsibilities are department leadership, forecasting and business planning, franchise development, execution and growth of Browns brand and communication strategies in addition to providing system-wide support for Browns' growing group of valued Franchisees.

Both Labahn and Baxter join Browns in the midst of an aggressive expansion mode for the restaurant group, which plans to have 50 locations established across Western Canada by the end of 2014, while breaking ground in the Ontario market within three years. Browns is also currently in the process of seeking a Director of Restaurant Design to lead the design team as they continue building a brand that is the fastest growing premium casual dining chain in Canada.
