Bruce Graney Appointed to the Hazardous Materials Information Review Commission

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 7, 2008) - The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health, today announced the appointment of Bruce Graney to the Hazardous Materials Information Review Commission (HMIRC) for a three-year term.

"Mr. Graney's expertise in the fields of safety training, safety education and emergency response, make him an ideal candidate for this position," said Minister Clement. "His vast experience teaching safety education courses to industry and government employees will assist him well with his new responsibilities."

Mr. Graney has worked for the Nunavut Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) since 1999 where he leads teams of safety officers and handles fatality investigations. In addition to his work for the WCB, Mr. Graney also has extensive experience in the mining industry. From 1962 to 1999 he was employed in a number of mines where he administered employer safety programs and trained equipment operators and emergency response teams.

Mr. Graney has been the chair of the North West Territories/Nunavut Screening Committee for the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals since 2002. He has also been president of the North of 60 Chapter of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineers since 2001.
