Bruce Power Site Raises $180,000 to Support Recovery and Rebuilding Efforts in Goderich

TIVERTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 26, 2011) - Through a fundraising effort on the Bruce Power site, employees, unions and the company raised $180,000 in support of recovery and rebuilding efforts in Goderich, which was hit by a devastating tornado on Aug. 21.

"I'm both impressed and thankful for all the support for our community during this challenging time," said Goderich Mayor Deb Shewfelt. "This incredible generosity from Bruce Power's employees is the largest fundraising donation yet and we look forward to putting these funds to good use as part of our recovery and rebuilding efforts. Bruce Power also continues to support our recovery efforts on the ground by providing equipment, supplies and human resources."

The $180,000 will be directed towards the immediate recovery efforts underway in Goderich and to support the community's rebuilding efforts, specifically the replacement of mature trees and repairing damage to the town's beautiful downtown core.

"We have all seen the devastation in Goderich and I'm very proud our employees, unions and the company have pulled together to raise a significant amount of money in such a short period of time," said Duncan Hawthorne, President and CEO. "When there are challenges in any community in our region we pull together to support each other, and this is just another way we can help the community of Goderich through this very challenging time."

The fundraising effort on the Bruce Power site consisted of a gate collection that was matched dollar-for-dollar by the company. The two main unions on site, The Society of Energy Professionals and the Power Workers' Union, contributed $10,000 to the fundraising effort, which was also matched by Bruce Power.
