Brunswick News signs five-year deal selecting The Canadian Press as the multimedia news provider for its daily newspapers, websites and mobile applications

The Telegraph-Journal, Times & Transcript and The Daily Gleaner will publish news, photos and videos from Canada's national news agency.

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 15, 2012) - The Canadian Press announced today the signing of a five-year deal with Brunswick News, one of Atlantic Canada's most dynamic media groups. Under the agreement, Brunswick News's three daily newspapers, websites and mobile applications will publish text, photos and videos from Canada's most trusted news source and leader in providing real-time multimedia content. Saint John's Telegraph-Journal, Moncton's Times & Transcript and Fredericton's The Daily Gleaner will now offer print and digital audiences Atlantic, national and international coverage from The Canadian Press to complement its strong local content.

"We're excited to be chosen by Brunswick News because of our ability to deliver a news report from across Canada that's unmatched for its breadth and timeliness," said Malcolm Kirk, President of The Canadian Press. "CP already serves Brunswick's French-language weekly, L'Étoile, and provided content to its English-language dailies for many years before 2010, so it's wonderful to be growing our partnership once again to help Brunswick News serve its loyal readers with reliable news."

"Brunswick News prides itself on its commitment to understanding what its readers want and we're confident that selecting The Canadian Press to provide its credible, comprehensive national and international news coverage will help us fulfill those needs," said James C. Irving, Vice President and Publisher of Brunswick News. "Our dailies will publish CP content from a customized news feed that is relevant to our audiences. This flexible content model, together with CP's longstanding reputation for providing excellent customer service, form a solid foundation for us to work together for many years."

The agreement with Brunswick News sees the publisher join the ranks of major daily newspapers, hundreds of radio and TV stations and websites that subscribe to content from The Canadian Press. In 2010, three of Canada's best-known and most-respected media companies teamed up to reinvest in The Canadian Press. Square Victoria Communications Group (parent company of Gesca Ltée) and Torstar Corporation (through its subsidiary Torstar Holdings Inc.), along with The Globe and Mail jointly invested in a new for-profit entity, Canadian Press Enterprises Inc., established to take over operations of the news agency. The investors, directly or through their affiliates, operate, respectively, La Presse, the Toronto Star and The Globe and Mail.
