BSQUARE Announces Distribution and Support for Adobe Reader Mobile SDK

Software Development Kit Enables Content Providers and Developers to Support PDF, EPUB and Adobe Content Server 4 Protected Documents on eReaders and Smartphones

BELLEVUE, WA--(Marketwire - May 18, 2011) - BSQUARE Corporation (NASDAQ: BSQR), a leading enabler of smart, connected devices, today announced it has signed a new distribution agreement with Adobe. As part of the agreement, BSQUARE, an Adobe Scaling Partner since 2007, will distribute the Adobe® Reader® Mobile software development kit (SDK), which enables application developers and content providers to easily deliver, manage and display high-quality PDF and EPUB documents on mobile devices utilizing the SDK's reference systems for Android, Linux and Microsoft Windows Mobile platforms. BSQUARE will also provide engineering support for customers licensing the Adobe product, including application porting, UI development and cross-platform development services.

This agreement continues the expansion of the mobile application development services provided by BSQUARE. The Adobe Reader Mobile SDK allows developers to take advantage of proven digital rights management (DRM) technology with a mobile-optimized software engine that can be used to easily render content across a wide range of mobile devices and with support for PDF, EPUB and Adobe Content Server 4 eBook content protection functionality. As an experienced Adobe Scaling Partner, BSQUARE supports application publishers and content providers by enabling the design, development, testing and deployment of mobile applications for all major platforms and device form factors.

The Reader Mobile SDK will also enable device makers to take advantage of a mobile-optimized software engine, designed to deliver high-performance, high-quality scalable document rendering even on resource-limited embedded devices. Via the distribution agreement with BSQUARE, Adobe provides OEMs and ODMs access to an open, cross-platform solution for the display of eBooks and other digital publications in the PDF and EPUB formats. The Reader Mobile SDK enables cost-efficient workflows that leverage existing Creative Suite editorial tools, avoiding costs associated with retraining designers and developers.

"Over the years, BSQUARE engineers have ported the Flash® Platform to more than 100 diverse types of embedded devices," said Mark Whiteside, vice president of engineering services for BSQUARE. "Content distribution today requires developers to create applications that work on all types of devices and across operating systems. A major benefit of the Adobe Digital Publishing Solution for eBooks is that it works across multiple platforms, which means customers are not locked-in to file formats or distribution."

"As consumers read eBooks in increasing numbers, device manufacturers and app developers turn to the Reader Mobile SDK to render PDF and EPUB documents across platforms," said Nick Bogaty, director of business development, Digital Publishing at Adobe. "We're excited to partner with BSQUARE to enable these eBook reading experiences through the Reader Mobile SDK on the devices readers demand."

The Adobe Reader Mobile SDK is available to OEMs, integrators and mobile application developers through an Adobe license agreement with BSQUARE. For more information about the product and licensing and development support from BSQUARE visit:
