BUILD Youth Entrepreneurship Program Awarded 2011 LiveOps Foundation Grant

Funds to Help Empower Students With Academic and Entrepreneurial Opportunities

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - Apr 20, 2011) - LiveOps announced today BUILD's Youth Entrepreneurship Program is the recipient of a 2011 LiveOps Foundation grant. The grant will fund nationwide programs which aim to engage and empower students at-risk of dropping out of school with meaningful academic and entrepreneurial opportunities to help them succeed in high school and beyond. The grant support will provide additional operational assistance support for BUILD's staff, supplies, teachers, field trips and college-access initiatives.

"LiveOps Foundation and BUILD are both committed to making sure that everyone has an opportunity to develop a fulfilling career," said Maynard Webb, chairman and CEO of LiveOps. "The work that BUILD is doing to engage youth through business entrepreneurship not only helps to lower educational barriers, but it also provides these students with a real chance to put great ideas into action and, despite the odds stacked against them, learn that they can succeed after high school and college."

Added Eric Ventry, a LiveOps client services representative who nominated BUILD, "At a BUILD event last year, I witnessed students presenting well-prepared and rigorously researched business plans. Seeing the confidence and enthusiasm that these students displayed at the event was truly rewarding. I'm proud to work for a company that shares the same values as BUILD and recognizes the importance of supporting and empowering our youth."

BUILD believes that the power of student ideas in action drives youth to reach their fullest potential in school and in their communities. BUILD's students develop their own business ideas, write business plans, pitch to funders and launch real businesses geared to motivate them to succeed. To help them become college-eligible, students also receive individually tailored academic support and advising for their schoolwork and college planning. Such efforts lower the barriers for students from low-income neighborhoods who would be the first generation in their family to go to college -- the odds are stacked against these students before they ever enter high school. Only half will earn a high school diploma and one in 10 will graduate from college. To date, 100 percent of BUILD seniors have graduated from high school and been accepted to college.

"A contribution from LiveOps will support BUILD's central mission," said Kishshana Palmer Teele, CFRE, National Director of Development for BUILD. "We strive to empower our students to excel in school, graduate and go on to college. Our program is designed to help students realize their potential. Though they may continue to struggle, BUILD never gives up on them. That consistency and compassion -- coupled with hands-on business training and rigorous academic support -- transforms at-risk youth from a dropout statistic to successful students and community leaders."

After starting in 1999 in just one school near East Palo Alto, the BUILD program is now available throughout eight high schools in the Bay Area, including four Oakland high schools. Five BUILD students have been awarded the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) National Youth Entrepreneur of the Year award. BUILD has also been nominated for several awards, including the Fast Company Social Capitalist Award (finalist) and the Manhattan Institute Social Entrepreneurship Award.

LiveOps Foundation
LiveOps built the LiveOps Foundation on three cornerstones of giving. LiveOps has set aside approximately one percent of current outstanding shares to be used to fund the Foundation after a liquidity event. In addition, LiveOps offers gifts of cash supporting grants for organizations that their employees support, grants for philanthropic business partners and an employee matching gift policy. Lastly, LiveOps offers the gift of time by enabling its employees to volunteer on average one percent of their time to an organization of their choice, or participate in a company-sponsored event.
