Building a Strong Business Environment for Brandon-Area Entrepreneurs

Economic Action Plan 2014 Continues to Build Canada's Economy

BRANDON, MANITOBA--(Marketwired - March 18, 2014) - Industry Canada

Maxime Bernier, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism) (Agriculture), today delivered a keynote address to the Brandon Chamber of Commerce. The Minister of State explained how the Government of Canada is creating the best business environment possible for Canadian entrepreneurs by cutting unnecessary government red tape and delivering substantial ongoing tax relief. He highlighted Economic Action Plan 2014 measures that are helping entrepreneurs create jobs and spur economic growth.

The Minister of State also mentioned that the federal government is continuing to boost international commercial ties, referring to the historic free trade agreement with the Republic of Korea that was recently announced by the Prime Minister. This agreement provides Canadian businesses with a gateway to Asia, enhancing the global competitiveness of agricultural producers in Manitoba and of exporters across the country.

Quick facts

  • Cutting the small business tax rate and increasing the small business income limit have translated into $2.2 billion in tax relief this year alone.
  • Small businesses represent 98 percent of all businesses in Canada, account for nearly 7 in 10 jobs in the private sector and contribute about 30 percent to our gross domestic product.
