Burlington Canal Lift Bridge Closed to All Vehicular and Marine Traffic

Due to a mechanical malfunction, the bridge is inoperable at present; a crew has been dispatched

HAMILTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 17, 2012) - At 9:40 a.m., a mechanical malfunction occurred on the Burlington Canal Lift Bridge. A cable on the auxiliary counterweight broke and halted the bridge at an altitude of approximately 80 feet. There were no injuries during this incident.

Safety is our top priority. The bridge is closed to all vehicular and marine traffic at this time. Bridge engineers are on site assessing the damage. We are working to have the bridge operational as soon as possible.

As the situation is assessed, updates will be posted.
