Burns & McDonnell Named 33rd Best Workplace for Camaraderie in the U.S.

Teamwork, Connections and Culture Place Firm on Inaugural Great Place to Work(R) and Fortune List

KANSAS CITY, MO--(Marketwired - Dec 22, 2015) -  After reviewing the opinions of more than 255,000 employees from nearly 600 companies across the country, Great Place to Work® and Fortune have ranked Burns & McDonnell 33rd on the first-ever list of 50 Best Workplaces for Camaraderie. The recognition was based entirely on employees' assessments of their company's sense of fun, teamwork and collegiality.

"The great camaraderie at Burns & McDonnell stems from employee ownership," says Greg Graves, chairman and CEO of Burns & McDonnell. "The ownership mentality drives our company culture and fosters inclusion, support, teamwork and pride."

Throughout the year, Burns & McDonnell hosts a variety of employee events to commemorate achieving goals, relieve stress, encourage togetherness and have fun. From barbecues to company picnics to company-sponsored intramural teams and more, celebrations are engrained in the company culture.

"It makes business sense to emphasize camaraderie within our firm," says Melissa Wood, chief administrative officer of Burns & McDonnell. "We've established employee groups like a Diversity Advisory Committee, Corporate Citizenship Committee, Wellness Committee and even Fun Committees, all dedicated to engaging employees. These have proven to strengthen trust, encourage teamwork and help us make our clients more successful."

Employees anonymously answered questions in a survey about how frequently they experience the behaviors that create a great workplace. Companies achieving the highest overall results in their size categories were then ranked based on employees' feedback regarding the quality of the personal connections they experience with colleagues, taking into account: how comfortable people feel being themselves; how friendly, cooperative and fun the workplace is; and the strength of its teams. Survey results achieved a 95 percent confidence level and a margin of error of 5 percent or less. The total score for each company was based entirely upon employee feedback.

"Companies that develop strong personal ties among employees and make time for fun at work aren't just doing it to be nice -- it's a critical strategic investment," says Michael Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work® United States. "Workplaces with strong camaraderie are associated with higher levels of cooperation, effort and effective communication -- all essential ingredients of a high-performing organization."

The 50 Best Workplaces for Camaraderie ranking is one of a series of rankings by Great Place to Work® and Fortune based upon employee survey feedback from published Great Place to Work® Reviews.

This is the third recognition Burns & McDonnell received in 2015 from Great Place to Work® and Fortune. Earlier this year, the company was ranked No. 15 on the 2015 Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For list and No. 14 on the 100 Best Workplaces for Millennials list.
