Burns & McDonnell Prepares for Growth Within Mid-Atlantic Region

CHESAPEAKE, VA--(Marketwired - Feb 5, 2015) - Burns & McDonnell is making significant investments in the Mid-Atlantic region with the opening of offices in Roanoke, Va., and Fulton, Md., to serve the Baltimore-Washington, D.C., area. Both are extensions of the growing Mid-Atlantic regional office that opened in Chesapeake, Va., in 2010 to provide architectural, engineering and construction services.

"We strive to bring on the best talent and are looking to hire individuals in all of our office locations throughout the year," says Jeffrey Ganthner, AIA, manager of the Mid-Atlantic office. "We have grown substantially over the past four years to a regional team of more than 50 employee-owners, with plans to grow to more than 100 strong within two years. Burns & McDonnell is not only here to stay but can now substantially expand our service offerings to clients throughout the region."

Burns & McDonnell is a 100% employee-owned global firm with more than 5,000 employees that specialize in 11 service areas. In the Mid-Atlantic region, Burns & McDonnell emphasizes commercial office buildings, power, environmental, federal, defense, manufacturing, healthcare and higher education projects.

In the Roanoke area, Burns & McDonnell has focused on a variety of commissioning projects recently, working the University of Virginia-Wise, the Alexander Black House in Blacksburg, and the Vinton Branch of the Roanoke Library. The commissioning process allows a facility owner to document that systems work, materials are as expected, and overall project performance meets defined objectives and criteria. Burns & McDonnell has built a commissioning team that focuses on the key aspects of a facility's design that rank highest in importance with the facility owner. The team applies commissioning principles to all types of facilities, from commercial real estate to industrial plants.

Burns & McDonnell works with some of the most respected clients in the region. Projects include new construction and expansions for the Architect of the Capitol, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Volvo Trucks, Dominion Virginia Power, the University of Virginia, Regent University and Rolls Royce. In October 2014, Burns & McDonnell received a National Design Excellence Award for the recent expansion at Rolls Royce in Prince George's County, Va. The work at the Advanced Aerofoil Machining Facility was completed in partnership with Balfour Beatty.

"A company that was founded in 1898 and continues to grow strong knows what it means to make our clients successful and to build a practice for the future," Ganthner says. "That foundation, along with significant new investments in talent within the region, means that we are stronger than we have ever been in our 117-year history. Burns & McDonnell is committed to providing innovative design and construction projects to fuel future growth and prosperity in the Mid-Atlantic region."
