Senior IT managers across Germany, France and UK highlight lack of holistic integration capabilities

With the economic downturn amplifying the need for companies to focus on core competencies and strengthen their relationships with partners and suppliers to retain a competitive advantage, driving business integration across business communities has never been more important.

To aid companies with the challenge of achieving seamless internal and business-to-business systems integration, Sterling Commerce, an AT&T Inc (NYSE:T) company, today launches the first in a series of video Guides to Business Integration.

In the first video, Dave Carmichael, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Sterling Commerce discusses business integration with particular reference to today's economic climate. Current situations demand a quick turn of pace but analysis of present attitudes suggests companies are not capable of such agility.

Sterling Commerce recently conducted a survey of 300 executive and senior level IT respondents across France, Germany and the UK; investigating the value of running an enterprise integration strategy.

Dave Carmichael explores these findings and analyses why the majority of organisations (79 per cent) felt they were limited in the effectiveness of their business integration and why only 23 per cent believe their capabilities are 'very effective'.

Looking across the countries, the survey highlights that in France a quarter of companies find their business integration capability is not quite what it needs to be, and this rises to over half in the UK. The implication of this is that there are still business efficiencies to be made and that's more important than ever in today's economic climate.

Sterling Commerce, who also announces growth in B2B services today, enables companies to quickly, easily, and securely optimise and transform their Business Collaboration Network inside and outside the enterprise, to accelerate revenues and reduce costs.

'Through the late 90's and early 2000's, integration was about "inside the enterprise" and showing that applications could talk to each other. As we moved into the late 2000's, companies are realising that if they want to be efficient and they want to be competitive, they actually need to integrate beyond the four walls of their organisation, beyond the firewall, to their main trading and business partners.'

Dave Carmichael, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Sterling Commerce discusses the heritage of business integration

'As the European market leader in managing Business Travel, we are doing everything to offer our most demanding clients a very high level of service. We should therefore be able to count on an integration solution that is sufficiently robust and flexible to respond to our quality and performance objectives.

Pierre-Emmanuel Tetaz, Managing Director at Etap-On-Line discusses how Sterling Commerce "fitted the bill"

'Instead of ripping and replacing systems, we created business processes that traverse legacy and varied ERP environments. (Sterling Commerce) was selected for its proven technology capable of supporting the real-time exchange of data between all parties using a wide range of data formats.'
