BusinessGenetics White Paper Challenges Business Requirement Approaches

ENGLEWOOD, CO--(Marketwire - November 13, 2008) - BusinessGenetics, a pioneer in the Business Modeling, Business Requirements, Business Improvement and IT automation markets, announced the publication of a white paper that challenges the way organization go about gathering business requirements for application development projects.

The white paper titled "Business Requirements - An Inconvenient Truth," Cedric Tyler, 2008, and published by the Requirements Networking Group® takes a critical look at historic and current approaches to business requirement elicitation and depiction. The paper concludes that current theory, approaches and tools do little to aid the Business Analyst, and advocates a rethinking of current definitions and approaches. Inadequate or "poor" business requirements are most frequently cited by analyst groups as the principal cause of poor automation or application integration projects (for both custom development and Commercial Off The Shelf solutions).

With automation of the business continuing to play a strategic role within organizations, especially in light of recent economic trends, business managers, IT practitioners and process analysts are constantly seeking to better understand, streamline and automate business processes and communicate their needs to IT professionals.

After applied research and analysis of hundreds of business requirements from leading US corporations and government agencies, Tyler argues that business analysts and industry "experts" are ill equipped to meet the challenges posed by the new economy and recent software technology advancements. He opines that most business requirement theory and technology is "vague and superficial" and of little practical value to today's professionals. The paper cites most business requirements as being "random snippets of consciousness, prioritized in a spreadsheet."

The paper calls for a foundational rethinking and retooling of the industry, to meet current economic challenges and to leverage newer advances in technology.
