BYTEGRID(R) Continues National Expansion Adding Massive Data Center in Downtown Cleveland

Low Cost Power, No Personal Property Taxes, Increasing Local Demand for Compliant-Grade Data Center Space and Strategic Location Head List of Key Attributes

CLEVELAND, OH--(Marketwired - Jun 3, 2013) - BYTEGRID®, a leading data center company focused on the nationwide acquisition, development and operation of premier wholesale data center facilities, today announced the acquisition of the Cleveland Technology Center (CTC), the market leader in secured telecommunications and data center facilities in Cleveland, Ohio.

BYTEGRID's disciplined national expansion strategy focuses on increasing data center capacity in underserved markets. It identified Cleveland as highly desirable based on several key attributes:

  • Over one-hundred Fortune 500 companies have operations in Cleveland including many from the finance, healthcare and high-tech sectors creating strong demand for data center space
  • Limited wholesale supply available to serve enterprise and service provider markets
  • Reliable, low cost commercial power
  • New Enterprise Zone Designation
  • Strong fiber network connectivity
  • Strategic location serving the Ohio corridor and bisecting major business centers Chicago and New York

The CTC encompasses 333,215 square feet of highly secure data center space and sits on top of one of the largest fiber point of presence (POP) sites in Ohio. Previous owners invested significant capital into facility upgrades to position the CTC it as one of the premier data center locations in the Cleveland market.

The property is well served by redundant 20 MVA power feeders from two separate utility substations with access to additional capacity as needed. It is 53% leased by a variety of internet, communications service providers and government agencies creating one of Cleveland's most fiber-connected properties.

The CTC is uniquely positioned with Cleveland's "Health-Tech Corridor," which is currently undergoing a major building boom with nearly $4 billion of real estate investment. Not since the building of three new stadiums and arenas in the 1990s has Cleveland seen such positive momentum.

BYTEGRID's immediate plans call for conditioning 30,000 square feet of vacant space into enterprise-class, mission-critical data center space offering a Tier III design and over 4 megawatts of power capacity to serve enterprise, government and service provider markets. Additional expansion is envisioned to meet anticipated future demand.

"Cleveland is a perfect match for BYTEGRID's national expansion strategy focused on unleashing data center capacity in underserved areas of major markets," said Kenneth Parent, CEO of BYTEGRID. "Vibrant business expansion and investment, along with market changing development projects, are taking place all around Cleveland's CBD and midtown health-tech corridor. BYTEGRID plans to further improve and expand the CTC making it the primary provider of capacity and connectivity in Cleveland, as well as an ideal disaster recovery location for Midwest and East Coast markets such as Chicago and New York."

BYTEGRID's data centers are highly secure, compliant business platforms serving some of the world's largest companies. BYTEGRID's innovative data center model offers a compelling alternative as to how local organizations and Fortune 500 companies outsource their data center capacity in the Northeast Ohio corridor.

With this acquisition, BYTEGRID now operates three data centers encompassing more than 625,000 square feet of superior wholesale data center space meeting the highest standards for security and reliability. Late last year, BYTEGRID announced the acquisition of a 77,322 sq. ft. world-class, carrier neutral facility in Alpharetta, Georgia. Prior to this, BYTEGRID expanded and enhanced its financial-grade, 214,000 sq. ft. Silver Spring facility, the largest multi-tenant data center in the state of Maryland. The company is currently leasing space in these centers while planning the acquisition of more facilities this year.
